behind the lens
Tricia Charles
Thank you for being here. I’m Tricia— a canine, equine, and senior portrait photographer with a deep appreciation for presence, connection, and meaningful storytelling.
At heart, I’m an artist. I’m drawn to the Massachusetts coastline, quiet water, and the sense of calm that comes from being outdoors. You’re most likely to find me near the ocean, bundled in a well-worn sweatshirt, enjoying a firepit conversation, or absorbed in a thoughtful mystery or spy novel. These quieter moments shape how I see the world—and how I approach my work.
I’m naturally curious and creatively driven, always exploring new ideas and possibilities. But the constant through everything has been photography. It’s where I feel most grounded, most focused, and most at home. Holding a camera gives me a way to slow down and truly see—whether that’s an animal’s presence, a fleeting expression, or the story unfolding between moments.
I look forward to creating work that feels intentional, personal, and lasting—and to telling your story with the care it deserves.

where it began
My path to this work hasn’t been linear. Art shaped the first chapter of my life—I spent years exploring it through many forms, from drawing and painting to ceramics, charcoal, and photography. Creativity was constant, even as the medium evolved.
For a time, I stepped away to focus on my family and raise my children. That pause brought perspective, and when I returned to photography in 2019, it was with clarity and intention. What began as a return to the camera grew into a business—and into a deeper understanding of how I want to create.
Since then, my work has continued to evolve alongside my life. The growth has been steady and meaningful, shaping not only my art, but the way I see, slow down, and tell stories through images.
why i do what i do
Growing up with dogs and surrounded by friends who owned horses, animals have always been part of my life. That lifelong connection naturally informs my work. I’m also, at my core, an artist—drawn to creating images that feel considered, meaningful, and lasting.
My focus is canine and equine photography approached as fine art. I don’t create snapshots; I create carefully crafted portraits that honor presence, personality, and the bond you share with your animal. Each piece is intended to be something distinctive—work that feels personal rather than fleeting.
I believe photographs deserve to live beyond a screen. For that reason, I offer only high-quality print lab products, chosen for their longevity and ability to be enjoyed in your home for years to come.
I do this work because animals are more than companions. They’re family—and their stories deserve to be preserved with care.
“Tricia is an amazingly talented photographer! Her style highlights the beauty of her subject, in our case it was my daughter and her horse. She was able to really capture the bond between these two in such beautiful ways! Her use of the natural landscape made for a beautiful backdrop as well. HIGHLY recommend Tricia Charles Photography!”
When I’m not photographing or editing, I spend my time with my family—my husband, our two daughters, and our dog, Benji. Time at home is grounding for me and an important counterbalance to my work.
I also enjoy working in watercolor. I’m drawn to the fluidity of the medium and the way it encourages exploration rather than perfection. The process—watching color move, blend, and settle—offers a sense of ease and freedom that mirrors how I approach creativity as a whole.
