About the artist
Drawn to What Matters
I’m Tricia Charles, a photographer and artist with an enduring curiosity about the natural world and the lives we share with it.
I have always been drawn to quiet places.
Marshes at sunrise. Empty trails. Horses grazing before the world wakes. The way light settles across a field for only a few minutes before disappearing again. Photography became my way of paying attention to those moments, and eventually, my way of sharing them.
My work explores the quiet bond between people, animals, and the landscapes they share. Some pieces begin with a question. Others begin with a feeling I can't quite explain until I pick up a camera or a brush.
Echo & Cotton is the space where those ideas are allowed to grow without expectation. It is where I create work simply because it feels meaningful to create.
There came a point when I realized not every photograph I wanted to make belonged to a client. Some images existed simply because I couldn't stop thinking about them.
Echo & Cotton became a place where curiosity could lead, where work could begin without a brief, a deadline, or an expectation. It is my artist's studio. A place to explore, to learn, and to make work that asks questions before it offers answers.
Echo & Cotton is intended to grow slowly. Each collection begins with a question, unfolds through observation, and is released when the work feels complete. As the Studio evolves, new collections and original works will continue to find their place here.
What I Hope My Work Does
I don't create photographs to document what something looked like.
I create them to preserve what it felt like.
The hush before sunrise.
The weight of an old horse's head resting beside someone who loves them.
The quiet dignity of a solitary tree.My hope is that every piece invites someone to slow down for just a little while.
